Ever wish you could clone yourself? Join the club! Now that the worst of the recession seems to be over and business is booming again, many of us image consultants are finding ourselves in the enviable position of having more work than we can handle. Of course, that also means that we’re working late at night and on the weekends and feeling completely overwhelmed by the non-stop work to be done.
As a small business owner, it can be tempting to try to do it all on your own—not simply because it saves you the cost of having to hiring someone, but also because you feel like you have more control and oversight. But it’s also important to realize that not delegating can hurt your business’s growth. Sometimes we reach a point where we need to start delegating some tasks so that we can focus our attention on the things that bring in the money, such as creating new products or brokering deals, not the administrative busy work that takes up so much time. Just imagine what you could accomplish with a few freed-up hours every week!

Prioritize. Make a list of the day-to-day time-consuming tasks that you feel need to be done but aren’t the best use of your time. Maybe it’s your daily company blog, or computer maintenance or filing and keeping your contacts updated. Have a clear idea of what a new hire could take on, and give yourself a goal as to what you can focus on with the extra time. (more…)
